چکیده

This study examined the concentration of organic and inorganic phosphorus in surface soils of a Bouteloua gracilis-Bouteloua eriopoda grassland, and a Larrea tridentata shrubland, in the northern Chihuahuan Desert, New Mexico, USA. In this desert where the grassland vegetation has a uniform spatial distribution and individual shrubs have a patchy spatial distribution across the landscape, vegetation strongly influences the distribution of soil nutrients. Most studies of soil phosphorus fractions in desert soils have focused primarily on inorganic P fractions and have demonstrated the importance of geochemical controls on soil P cycling. The research presented here addressed the question of whether organic phosphorus, determined by the presence of different vegetation types, also contributes to soil P cycling. Within soils of similar age, topography, parent material, and climatic regime, samples were collected under and between vegetation and analyzed for P fractions following a modified sequential fractionation scheme. Most soil inorganic P was found in the HCland cHCl-extractable forms in both the grassland and shrubland soils, indicating CaCO3 control over phosphorus availability. In contrast, most soil organic P was bound to Al and Fe minerals. Labile, plant-available P fractions summed to 9.5% of total P in the grassland and 6.1% in the shrubland. Organic P comprised 13.3% of the total phosphorus pool in the grassland and 12.0% in the shrubland. Our results show that the organic P pool may represent an important, yet often overlooked, source of P in semiarid ecosystems.

Interactions of local climatic, biotic and hydrogeochemical processes facilitate phosphorus dynamics along an Everglades forest-marsh gradient

Ecosystem nutrient cycling is often complex because nutrient dynamics within and between systems are mediated by the interaction of biological and geochemical conditions operating at different temporal and spatial scales. Vegetated patches in semiarid and wetland landscapes have been shown to exemplify some of these patterns and processes. We investigated biological and geochemical factors sugg...

تغییرات فسفر قابل‌جذب و شکل‌های فسفر معدنی بومی پس از غرقاب در خاک‌های شالیزاری شمال ایران

Phosphorus behavior in waterlogged soils is significantly different from non-waterlogged soils. Changes in available phosphorus and inorganic phosphorus fractions after waterlogging in the paddy soils of north of Iran were studied in a laboratory research. A factorial experiment in a completely randomized design with two replications was performed with factors of soil at 14 levels (10 alkaline-...

Effect of Arbuscular Mycorrhiza fungi application on distribution of phosphorus forms in rhizosphere soils of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)

Appropriate management of soil phosphorus (P) fertility in highly calcareous soils of Iran as around the world should rely upon sound knowledge about the phosphorus reserve and its bioavailability. Despite numerous reports on the positive effects of vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae (VAM) fungi on phosphorus uptake which is associated to Ectomycorrhiza as a branch of two major branches of group ...

Colloidal phosphorus in surface runoff and water extracts from semiarid soils of the western United States.

Colloidal particles in runoff may have an important role in P transfer from soils to waterbodies, but remain poorly understood. We investigated colloidal molybdate-reactive phosphorus (MRP) in surface runoff and water extracts of calcareous arable soils from the semiarid western United States. Colloidal MRP was determined by ultrafiltration and operationally defined as MRP associated with parti...

شکل‌های فسفر خاک در چهار ردیف ارضی از مناطق اصفهان و شهرکرد

Studying soil phosphorus fractions is useful in understanding soil pedogenesis as well as soil fertility. In this reseach, 20 soil samples were taken from different depths of 0-30 and 30-60 cm of upper-slope, mid-slope and lower-slope positions of four toposequences in arid (Jei and Ziar in Isfahan) and semiarid (Farokhshahr and Shahrekord) regions. In each toposequence, the soil depth was re...
